When I Grow Up I Want to be a Pimp

It has been a fairly slow Monday night at work. Don't get me wrong. I have had to deal with a couple of crazies, but no more than usual.

Mainly, I have been watching 'Pretty Woman' on one of the bar tvs. Jess and I have been quoting lines back and forth at each other all night.

"I can do anything I want to baby, I ain't lost."

"Big mistake. Big. Huge. I have to go shopping now. "

"Oh honey you know what's happened I got a runner in my pantyhose, I'm not wearing pantyhose. "

Anyways, it got me to thinking about how that movie came out when I was like 5 years old. I definitely watched that movie as a child.  It's weird to me that my parents let me watch a movie about a prostitute. Yet, they were totally not ok with me watching shows like 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,' 'The Simpsons,' and 'Rugrats.' Clearly they had their priorities twisted.

Oh and we all watched the movie "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" while we were growing up. Seriously, when one of my younger sisters was 5 she wanted to be Miss Mona when she grew up. If you don't know, Miss Mona is essentially a pimp who used to be a hooker. That is definitely someone you want a child looking up to.

Did any of you want to grow up to be Vivian from Pretty Woman? Or did you have some other weird idols?

  2. Yeah, but Miss Mona was a hooker/pimp with a heart of GOLD... and she was always 'nice' to Burt Reynolds...

  3. Ha! I wanted to be Olivia Newton-John in "Grease". She had to turn herself into a tramp in the end to get her boy, but - *pish* - details.

    1. The whole tramp thing is just a minor detail.

  4. One of my friends just revealed to me that her parents wouldn't let her watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles because they were mutants an that goes against God.

Your story reminded me of that.

Anyway, when I grew up I wanted to be a mermaid. I didn't really have the details of how to realize this dream worked out, but I figured I'd figure it out as I went along.

    I'm still working on it.

  5. All the movies I watched in my childhood were in Spanish. All 300 of them were essentially the same film. Girls on the beach, men cracking jokes.
