I am so so so so sorry that I have not shared this story with you before. I guess this happened right before I started blogging.
Anyways, a few months back Mindy and I were at this Equality project thing in Knoxville. A bunch of Knoxville's LGBT community were getting together to shoot videos about how having equal rights would effect their lives on a personal level to send to our local politicians and the like.
I signed Mindy and myself up as volunteers to sign people in and help coordinate things.
Everything was going smoothly, and for the most part everyone was just hanging out having a good time. There were a couple people going around taking all sorts of pictures of the participants and volunteers. One of these ladies, who I had never met before in my life came up to me and asked if she would take a picture of my tattoos, my knuckle tattoos to be specific That would have been fine and dandy. However, the exact way she asked the question made me want to hit her.
She said "Can I take a picture of your prison tattoos?"
I was so shocked I just stood there for a minute.
"Umm. They aren't prison tattoos."
Mindy had to take over as she could she how mad I was getting. She made the crazy lady go away, turned to me and said "Did she seriously just ask if she could take a picture of your prison tattoos?"
The more I thought about it, the angrier I got.
Who the fuck asks someone that? I mean, seriously, what if they were prison tattoos? Why would you remind me of my prison time? Also, it is super fucking insulting. My knuckle tattoos look fucking awesome.
